FC Porto: Oskar Pietuszewski accepts responsibility after Estoril substitution

Oskar Pietuszewski accepted responsibility after reacting angrily to his substitution against Estoril, with Francesco Farioli replacing the 17-year-old to manage a disciplinary risk. According to O Jogo, the winger later acknowledged the issue in a frank exchange with the coach.

The plan had been to give him 90 minutes, as he did not play and will not be able to face Nottingham due to registration. He was the first to be withdrawn on 60 minutes with his side 2-0 up after being booked for reacting to a head contact from João Carvalho, then quickly committing another foul on the same opponent.

Pietuszewski left the pitch visibly irritated, shaking his head and venting on the bench, with Thiago Silva among those trying to calm him. At full time in Amoreira he still looked annoyed during the celebrations until Bednarek spoke to him in Polish, after which his demeanour changed.

Inside the camp the reaction was viewed as normal for a player of his age and something to improve. First Castro, then Farioli, spoke with him on site, offering routine feedback after the match that praised some decisions and challenged others.

Farioli made clear the change was to avoid a possible dismissal rather than performance related and stressed the need for better emotional control to prevent unnecessary bookings. Pietuszewski accepted that, treating the episode as part of his development, and the matter was considered closed. When FC Porto returned to prepare for Nottingham on Tuesday, a game he cannot play as he is not registered, it was business as usual.
