FC Porto’s year-old members’ portal has powered a surge in sign-ups, with this season already a record for new registrations.
According to O Jogo, the club has added 21,763 members so far this season, a 17.4 percent rise, with 70 percent of registrations completed online.
Launched in late February last year, the fully digital Portal do Sócio has proved a success for André Villas-Boas’s administration, designed to put members at the centre of the club. It streamlines sign-ups and issues a digital card immediately.
Total membership stood at 173,515 in February, up from 147,759 at the end of last season, as Porto move towards 180,000. The monthly average has been close to 2,400 new sign-ups, compared with 825 in 2023/24.
Nearly 15 percent of new members are correspondent members and almost 8 percent live outside Portugal. The average age is 26.4.
The oldest to join via the portal is 90, and 187 supporters were registered on the day they were born. The upward trend has been consistent in recent years.
The growth is not exclusively due to the portal, as the trend pre-dates its launch, but the simplified process, including instant digital card issuance and no need to attend in person, has proved decisive.
