FC Porto took the lead against Rio Ave shortly after the ten-minute mark, with Nehuén Pérez opening the scoring in the 11th minute. Before the half-hour mark, VAR disallowed a goal scored by defender Kiwior.

In the second half, it was only in the 82nd minute that Borja Sainz scored again for the blue and whites. With this result, FC Porto move clear at the top of the table, while Rio Ave sit in 18th place, still without a single point after two matches.
