The Gunners have already qualified for the quarter-finals with a game to spare. Arsenal go into their final group game in top spot and victory over FC Zürich will secure a more favourable draw in the quarter-finals.
Ahead of the game, FAWSL Full-Time have reviewed the match facts provided by UEFA. Here are three things to note going into Arsenal’s Matchday 6 fixture.
FC Zürich have a poor recent European record
Outside of the qualifying phase, FC Zürich have lost their last 11 UEFA Women’s Champions League matches, including five at home in which they have scored just one goal. Other than their victories in this season’s Round 1 and Round 2 ties, you have to go back to September 2018 for the Swiss club’s last European success.
Swiss football awaits UWCL group stage glory
FC Zürich are the second Swiss side to appear in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. Servette FCCF were drawn in Chelsea’s group last season and they lost all six matches. The wait for a result for a Swiss side in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage goes on given the fact that FC Zürich have lost five out of five this season.
Arsenal to return to the goal trail?
Arsenal have scored three or more goals in five of their last 10 group stage fixtures. They recorded a 3-1 win over FC Zürich in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium in October. The Gunners fired a blank for just the third time in their last 24 European matches against Lyon on Matchday 5. Are Jonas Eidevall’s side due a flurry of goals?
Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture against FC Zürich kicks-off at 5.45pm on Wednesday evening.
