Federico Ceccherini signs for CD Castellón on a one-season deal to June 2027 | OneFootball

CD Castellón have signed 34-year-old Italian centre-back Federico Ceccherini on a free, agreeing a one-season deal to June 2027.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he was a free agent after spending last season in Serie A with US Cremonese.

Born in Livorno in May 1992, Ceccherini has played for six Italian clubs, including Pistoiese, AS Livorno, Crotone, Fiorentina, Hellas Verona and US Cremonese.

He has made 227 Serie A appearances, most of them for Crotone and Hellas Verona. He has also played more than 100 matches in Serie B and had a season in Serie D on loan at Pistoiese early in his career.

Spain becomes the third country of his career. Beyond Italy, he featured in Türkiye’s top flight for Fatih Karagümrük, playing 31 matches in one season.

His arrival gives Castellón four specialist centre-backs, excluding Fabrizio Brignani, who is a long-term absentee and currently unregistered. The options are Alberto Jiménez, Agustín Sienra, Ilias Kostis, who is still building fitness and is a few weeks from availability, and Ceccherini.

Jeremy Mellot, usually a full-back, also filled in at centre-back in the Castellón v Sabadell fixture on matchday two. Speaking yesterday, Pablo Hernández said the club were happy to have completed their defence.
