Federico Viñas could be used as a bargaining chip in América’s pursuit of Santos Laguna midfielder Fernando Gorriarán.
According to reports in Mexico, the Azulcrema have set their sights on the Uruguay international as a replacement for Pedro Aquino.
The Peruvian has fallen down the pecking order under Fernando Ortiz, with Richard Sánchez the manager’s preferred choice in the engine room.
With Aquino linked with a move to Atlas, there is chatter that Gorriarán is wanted by Las Águilas to bolster the ranks.
And if Viñas’ signature is needed to sweeten the deal, there is every chance the 24-year-old could go in the opposite direction to his compatriot.
In truth, it is probably time for the former Juventud striker to move on.
Viñas made an instant impact when he arrived – initially on loan in 2019 – during Miguel Herrera’s tenure. However he has been hampered by injuries, which has made it tough for him to impress Ortiz or his predecessor, Santiago Solari.
The 24-year-old made 15 appearances during the regular season in the Apertura, but only three of them were from the start.
