Match preview ahead of trip to Holstein Kiel

With the international break behind them, the Green-Whites turn their focus to their upcoming Bundesliga match against Holstein Kiel on Saturday (29th March, 15:30 CET). Head coach Ole Werner's side are hoping to use their strong away form to come out on top in Kiel.

Team news: Ole Werner will have nearly a full squad to choose from against his former employers. Abed Nankishi (ill) and Milos Veljkovic (muscular) are the only players set to miss Saturday's match. Mitchell Weiser will be back available for selection again following his yellow-card suspension against Gladbach.

Ole Werner on the opponent: "We're now getting into the period of the season now where teams in the bottom of the table need points. That's why Kiel will do everything they can to win this game. We know what to expect. When Kiel have the ball, we will need to defend well in order to bring about opportunities for us to counter. We won't change much, however, and will continue doing what we normally do."

Previous meetings: This marks the sixth meeting between the sides since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963. Werder have won on two occasions, as have Holstein Kiel, with the remaining match ending in a draw. A late header from Oliver Burke secured all three points for the Green-Whites the last time these two sides met in November 2024 (2-1 win).

Happy travelers: SV Werder have picked up 20 of their 33 points this season on the road – this works out to 61% of their total points haul, which is the highest proportion in the league. The Green-Whites have won six away games this season already, most recently away at defending champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2-0). Kiel, meanwhile, have picked up 11 of their 17 points at home.
