Abel Braga and Luiz Felipe Scolari reunite to trade stories about Rafael Sobis and shared histories in Abel e Felipão: o encontro, which airs on Friday 23 at night on RBS TV.

According to Globo.com, their last meeting before the recording had also been brokered by Sobis, via a phone call to Scolari. His wife, Olga, initially thought the caller was Abel Ferreira, Scolari’s former player in Portugal, with whom he had spoken days earlier.

Once the mix-up was cleared, Abel Braga teased Scolari about being old and already in pyjamas by eight in the evening. Olga told him to go to the event, and the rest was easy companionship.

Sobis later worked under Scolari at Cruzeiro, scoring in 2020 from near halfway against Brasil de Pelotas, a strike Scolari likened to one even Pelé never managed. Scolari added that Sobis joined to settle an old account and simply to play for him, saying he now feels like a son.

Scolari accepts he cannot match Abel’s bond with the forward. Braga’s memories centre on Internacional’s Libertadores title in 2006, then further spells together at Al Jazira and Fluminense, prompting his quip that he is more of a father than Scolari.

Hosted by Alice Bastos Neves, the programme also features Carlos Miguel, the former Grêmio midfielder, and Fernando Carvalho, the former Inter president, as the managers revisit careers, friendship and life.
