Felipe Freitas honoured by Corinthians link and reiterates Bahia commitment | OneFootball

Corinthians are searching for a new head coach for the women’s team after dismissing Lucas Piccinato following Friday’s 2-2 draw with Fluminense at Neo Química Arena. Bahia boss Felipe Freitas has been linked but has signalled he will stay put.

In a social media post, Freitas said he was honoured to be considered by Corinthians, praised several of their standout players, and stressed there had been no direct offer. He reiterated his commitment to Bahia and plans to honour his deal until mid 2027.

He credited Bahia’s structure for elevating players to a bigger stage and said working with stars such as Zanotti, Tamires and Duda Sampaio would be a privilege. He also noted past ties with Rhaizza and Gi Fernandes, yet underlined he will not abandon the squad that backed him this year.

Freitas, 41, has led Bahia since August 2024, taking the first northeastern side into the Brasileiro Feminino knockouts before a quarter-final exit to Corinthians. He also reached the Copa do Brasil semi-final, losing to Ferroviária, and helped propel Rhaizza to a move to the Brabas.

In 2024 he secured a fifth Baiano title and finished Ladies Cup runners-up. Across 57 games for Bahia he has 41 wins, four draws and 12 defeats, and previously worked at Cruzeiro plus youth roles at Flamengo and Santos.

Corinthians are weighing alternatives, with Emilly Lima currently unattached and Marcelo Frigerio available after leaving Pumas at the end of 2025. The Brabas next face Palmeiras on 13 March at 21:30 at Arena Barueri, after the first FIFA window of 2026, with 10 players called up.
