In an interview with Sport Bild last month, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Ole Book made it clear that the “clear plan” is to keep Felix Nmecha beyond the summer.
“Felix will also play for us next season; that is the clear plan. He is one of the best midfielders in Germany, and he has nothing to hide in Europe either. He is extremely important for our game,” Book said.
However, it appears a stay beyond the summer is by no means guaranteed for Nmecha. As Sky Germany reports, while Dortmund would like to keep him, every player has his price, and interest from England remains strong.
The report suggests that Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all been in contact with the German international’s representatives for some time and are hoping an opportunity to sign him could open up during the transfer window.
Should a major offer from England arrive, Nmecha could push for a move, with the central midfielder understood to be open to a return to England.
The 25-year-old came through the academy at Manchester City before moving to VfL Wolfsburg on a free transfer in 2021. He then joined Dortmund in 2023 for a reported fee of €30 million.
Nmecha recently started for Germany in their 4-0 friendly win over Finland and has a good chance of playing alongside Aleksandar Pavlović in central midfield at the World Cup.
