Fenerbahçe have made a move to sign Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, according to Turkish-Football.com.

The Istanbul club switched focus to the Egypt international after efforts for Alexander Sørloth, Darwin Núñez and Jean-Philippe Mateta stalled. Beto was discussed, but the hierarchy is now concentrating on Marmoush.

They are said to be the only side assembling a formal bid for the 26-year-old, despite interest from Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Aston Villa. The planned €30 million spend would be a major outlay for the Süper Lig, and far below the €75 million City paid Eintracht Frankfurt a year ago.

City’s recent signing of Antoine Semenyo is seen as the trigger. With competition increasing at the Etihad, Marmoush has had limited minutes and is thought to want a starting role. He would prefer to remain in the Premier League, but the absence of firm English offers has left the door open for Fenerbahçe.

Marmoush is willing to talk to external suitors if a Premier League option does not emerge in the coming days. Manager Domenico Tedesco has urged the need for a more clinical edge, and Marmoush’s versatility across the front line is viewed as a potential difference-maker as the window ticks down. Attention now turns to whether City accept a hefty loss or an English rival intervenes late.
