Fenerbahçe have made Ollie Watkins a leading summer target and have sounded out his camp over a transfer. According to Turkish-Football.com, preliminary contact has been made with the Aston Villa forward’s representatives.

The Istanbul club want a marquee centre-forward to lead next season’s attack and are gauging whether a deal is possible.

Watkins, 30, is currently on England duty at the FIFA World Cup knockout stages, so an immediate breakthrough is unlikely. His agent has indicated he is focused on the tournament and will not engage in talks until it ends.

Any renewed push after the World Cup could face a sizeable financial hurdle. The striker is central to Unai Emery’s plans at Villa Park and scored 21 goals in all competitions in his latest campaign.
