According to L'Équipe, Fenerbahçe have an agreement with Mason Greenwood and his camp on a lucrative contract, but their 30 million euros plus bonuses proposal is far below Marseille’s 50-55 million euros stance.
During the presidential race, Hakan Safi promised the signings of Merih Demiral (Al-Ahli), Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter Milan), Luis Suarez (Sporting CP) or Mason Greenwood. He was defeated in early June by Aziz Yildirim’s list, president from 1998 to 2018. Safi never managed to lodge an official bid to OM, though he had terms agreed with Greenwood, his father and his lawyer, a central figure in the talks.
The new hierarchy has returned to the 24-year-old in recent days with a generous salary offer. Talks with OM still revolve around figures that do not meet the French club’s expectations.
Elsewhere, Atlético de Madrid and Al-Hilal are interested but can only move after selling players, specifically Julian Alvarez for the Spaniards and Malcom for the Saudis.
At Roma, coach Gian Piero Gasperini is portrayed as a huge admirer who wants Greenwood as the team’s figurehead, yet the owner must trim the squad now, with Manu Koné and Evan Ndicka among those linked with exits.
The report says many suitors believe OM will slash Greenwood’s price because they must sell, but it adds that this is considered a misread given the symbolic and financial stakes. Marseille appeared before the DNCG on Tuesday, which deferred its decision pending further information. The club is now heading for a spell of austerity.
