The Rio de Janeiro football federation, FERJ, released the VAR audio on Saturday 24 from Flamengo’s 1-0 win over Vasco on Wednesday 21, following Vasco fans’ complaints about the officiating. It centres on the dismissal of Cauã Barros.
In the recording, VAR lead Silbert Faria Sisquim is heard confirming a red card for studs on the calf, with on-field referee Bruno Arleu de Araújo agreeing with the decision.
Fernando Diniz started Barros in midfield, but he was sent off five minutes into the second half for a stamp on Carrascal’s calf.
With a man advantage, Flamengo kept Vasco under pressure and controlled the contest. At 24 minutes of the second half, Carrascal struck from the edge of the box to seal the win.
The result was Flamengo’s first victory of the Campeonato Carioca after a draw and two defeats with the under-20 side. They are fifth in Group B on four points.
Filipe Luís’ side face Fluminense at the Maracanã on Sunday 25, kick-off 18:00 Brasília time, in the fourth round of the Carioca.
The match will be shown by Globo, GE TV on YouTube and Premiere on pay-per-view.
