Barcelona are gearing up for arguably their most important match of the season so far as they take on Real Madrid this weekend.
All eyes will be on Fermin Lopez, who is heading into this game after scoring a hat-trick in Barcelona’s sensational win over Olympiacos in the Champions League.
It was a great performance from the Spanish international, who has recently recovered from an injury.
Speaking to Movistar+ ahead of the game, Fermin Lopez was asked whether or not he would like to score another hat-trick this weekend, this time against Real Madrid.
“Scoring a hat trick in El Clasico? I don’t know, it would be an incredible feeling. I hope it happens, but it’s a very difficult game. I’m happy if the team wins. I don’t care if I score or not. I hope I can have a great game and win,” he said.
Fermin is a huge favourite to start in the No. 10 role for Barcelona, especially with Dani Olmo ruled out due to injury.
Talking about the game itself, Fermin said he is looking forward to facing Real Madrid, admitting that it is an important game for the Blaugrana.
“We know it’s a very important match, for us, for the club, and for the fans, above all. It’s a match everyone wants to play; everyone has that desire and that excitement. Hopefully, we can put in a great performance and win,” he said.
The Spanish international also referred to the midweek game against Olympiacos, which has boosted his confidence.
“Now we’re coming in with good feelings, and on a personal level, also for being able to help with the hat trick. Naturally, without any nerves, and I’m sure things will go well,” he concluded.
During the course of his career so far, Fermin has faced Real Madrid six times – more than any other club he has played against. In these six matches, he has won thrice while scoring only one goal and failing to muster a single assist.
The Barcelona star will have to improve on those metrics this weekend.
