Fernando Diniz is hopeful Memphis Depay could feature for Corinthians against Atlético Mineiro and has urged the forward to stay.
According to Meu Timao, the coach said the Dutchman has a chance to play as he completes his transition work, speaking after the draw with Peñarol, and added he counts on him and wants him to remain.
Depay injured his right hamstring in March during the 1-1 draw with Flamengo. He then felt calf pain this week and sat out the game with Peñarol.
In April he suffered a setback linked to a conditioning error during gym work at CT Dr Joaquim Grava. Two weeks ago he began a new transition phase, taking part in ball work on the pitch.
Corinthians have explored commercial partners to cover his wages in any renewal. Despite his willingness to stay and cut pay, noted by executive Marcelo Paz, main sponsor Esportes da Sorte is not expected to finance a new deal.
The betting firm initially showed interest, mirroring its role in his arrival, but talks have not progressed. His current contract, agreed in September 2024, pays about R$ three million per month in salaries and image rights plus bonuses, and roughly R$ 57 million from the renewed sponsorship is no longer directed solely to him.
Diniz and Depay hope the No 10 can be involved at 18:30 on Sunday at Neo Química Arena.
