Benfica’s friendly with Flamengo at Estádio Algarve was marked by a 39th minute flashpoint between the benches, with goalkeeping coach Fernando Ferreira involved in a row with Leonardo Jardim.
According to Glorioso 1904, tensions spiked after Gianluca Prestianni was fouled heavily by Erick Pulgar, who was booked, prompting shouting and accusations across the technical areas.
The incident is said to have begun when Ferreira approached the Flamengo bench asking them to stop what he viewed as a hunt for Prestianni, warning they would bear responsibility if matters turned ugly.
A member of Marco Silva’s staff then returned to his seat to avoid being sent off. A brief confrontation followed between Ferreira and Jardim, which was smoothed over minutes later.
After the match, Flamengo’s head coach set out his view. He described himself as calm and respectful, but said he would not accept anyone disrespecting him or coming to his bench.
He added that he had been observing the game to make the best decisions and went to approach the person. In his account, the individual walked away rather than face him.
