Fernando Hierro has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo’s professionalism and discipline, arguing they keep him at elite level as he chases a record sixth World Cup. The former Real Madrid captain and ex Al-Nassr sporting director believes the Portugal captain remains pivotal if he stays fit.
"I believe Cristiano Ronaldo is still capable of competing at the highest level. I see no reason to leave Cristiano out of the World Cup, as long as he maintains his physical form and continues to perform at this level."
He was speaking to Egyptian channel ON Sport.
"It's true that age and potential injuries could have some impact, but Cristiano is known for taking very good care of his body and for always being prepared. I am confident that he will contribute a lot to Portugal and will perform well at the World Cup."
Ronaldo has 24 goals and two assists in 25 Saudi Pro League appearances this season, form that has helped keep Al-Nassr eight points clear of Al-Hilal.
"We're not just talking about a great player, but a unique model of professionalism and discipline. What truly sets him apart is his constant passion."
He has scored a record 143 goals in 226 caps for Portugal. The Selecao begin Group K against DR Congo on 17 June at NRG Stadium, then face Uzbekistan and Colombia.
