Feyenoord have announced the signing of former Fortuna Düsseldorf captain Florian Kastenmeier on a free transfer. The 29-year-old goalkeeper was available after leaving the German club following their relegation from the 2 Bundesliga last season. Kastenmeier played 228 games for Fortuna after joining the club on a free transfer in 2019. He brings Bundesliga experience to Feyenoord, having played for Fortuna during the 2020/2021 season in which they were relegated from the top flight.
Kastenmeier had previously been with Augsburg and Stuttgart before moving to Düsseldorf, having not featured for the first teams of either sides. However, he became a fan favourite in Düsseldorf and despite relegation left as one of the few players that had not seen their reputation plumet amongst the fan base. The experienced goalkeeper will now put pressure on new signing Tjark Ernst, who joined from Hertha Berlin to be Feyenoord’s new number one this season.
