Feyenoord Rotterdam defender Gernot Trauner is expected to miss Sunday’s clash against Go Ahead Eagles, the club has confirmed. The 31-year-old was absent from Feyenoord’s last fixture against Excelsior with a knee injury. This week he’s been unable to participate in training.

If Feyenoord beat Go Ahead Eagles at De Kuip this Sunday, they’ll be crowned Eredivisie Champions. With Trauner unavailable, Sunday’s task of winning the title will certainly be made more difficult. The Austrian international has made 31 appearances for Feyenoord across all competitions this season, and he’s worn the captain’s armband on five occasions. Arne Slot’s side have kept nine clean sheets out of the 19 league games Trauner has played in this campaign.

In December 2022, Trauner underwent surgery for a meniscus injury on his knee. The former LASK defender was sidelined for several weeks. This latest issue could be linked to his previous injury, but that’s yet to be confirmed. Trauner is also expected to miss Feyenoord’s final two games of the season against FC Emmen (away) and Vitesse (home).
