AJ Auxerre’s 1-0 defeat at home last weekend could have gone differently. The FFF’s officiating department admitted on Tuesday that the Burgundy club were unjustly denied a penalty in their 1-0 defeat to Le Havre AC.
Referee Hakim Ben El Hadj chose not to award Chrisophe Pélissier’s men a spot kick in that clash after a Lasso Coulibaly (23) shot deflected off the arm of Yassine Kechta (23) in the penalty area.
The FFF’s referees’ committee said that the Le Havre player took away a clear scoring opportunity and that Auxerre should have been awarded a penalty as a result.
Auxerre dropped into the relegation zone with that loss, and are currently on seven points after nine matches. The committee says it’s the fifth error made by a Ligue 1 referee this season.
AJA are two points below Angers SCO and have a guaranteed place in the top-flight after nine games.
