The French Football Federation meets in Ajaccio on Saturday, holding its federal assembly in Corsica for the first time in more than 40 years. A record €322 million budget for next season is set to be presented.

According to L'Équipe, the location surprised some federation officials because of potential costs. The event is said to be €100,000 cheaper than the assembly held in Nice in 2022.

The last federal meeting in Corsica took place in Bastia in the 1980s.

This assembly also comes after the recent conviction on appeal of Stéphane Vannucci, president of the Ligue de Corse and deputy mayor of Ajaccio, for receiving misappropriated public funds. He received a two-year suspended prison sentence, plus a five-year period of ineligibility and a ban on holding public office.

Vannucci is considering a cassation appeal in that case. He was also placed under formal investigation in June 2024 for passive corruption and passive influence peddling in a probe led by the JIRS in Marseille.
