According to L'Équipe, the FFF is not expected to approve Union Foot de Touraine’s move up to N1.
UFT finished second in their N3 group last season and argue they should have been chosen ahead of Canet to replace the Girondins de Bordeaux in N1 after the club’s exclusion from the national championships.
The tie-break for the best runners-up uses a mini league based on results against the five other top teams in each group. On that measure, Canet and UFT were level on points, goal difference and goals scored, so fair play separated them. UFT contest the use of season-long fair play rather than only matches against those five opponents.
Seized by the club, which was created in 2025, the CNOSF issued a favourable opinion and urged the FFF executive committee to accept UFT’s accession to N1, formerly N2, as soon as possible. N1’s three groups of 16 teams begin this weekend, a week before N2, formerly N3, where UFT are due to host Sainte-Geneviève in their opener.
The FFF executive committee has not been convened and has not ruled. The Indre-et-Loire club is expected to seek an emergency ruling at the administrative court, with a hearing potentially as early as Wednesday.
