The French Football Federation will not back Gianni Infantino’s re-election as Fifa president.

After an executive committee meeting on Thursday, FFF president Philippe Diallo said the federation would withhold support for Infantino’s bid for a new term in March 2027.

He opposed the now-withdrawn plan to create a commercial vehicle that would open the World Cup to private investors. He believes pressure halted it, yet does not think that ends the matter.

He argues Infantino’s initiatives during the World Cup and afterwards harmed the game’s image and unity. The executive committee deems trust in the Fifa president broken, and unanimously decided to withdraw support.

The FFF now aligns with Italy, Belgium, Sweden and Scotland, which have also moved away from backing him. Infantino has been under pressure for weeks over the investment project.
