FIFA announce extra transfer window for 2025 Club World Cup teams | OneFootball

FIFA have announced they will allow ‘flexibility’ in the 2025 summer transfer window for clubs involved in the Club World Cup – including Inter and Juventus – but players whose contracts expire mid-tournament will not be given extensions.

The competition is scheduled to run in the United States of America from June 15 to July 13, so those players whose contracts expire on June 30 will be free agents midway through the event.

There are currently 52 players who fit that bill, including Francesco Acerbi and Denzel Dumfries of Inter, Danilo at Juventus, Francisco Conceicao who is on loan, Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne and Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.

FIFA confirm Club World Cup flexibility

Today, the FIFA Council unanimously approved the regulations for the Club World Cup by providing Member Associations with the option of opening “an exceptional registration window from 1 to 10 June 2025 prior to the start of the competition.”

When it comes to those clubs with players whose contracts expire mid-competition, they “may replace players during a restricted in-competition period from 27 June to 3 July 2025 within a set limit and according to specific limitations,” as the ‘standard’ registration window is already open from July 1.

“However, the objective is to encourage clubs and players whose contracts are expiring to find an appropriate solution to facilitate the players’ participation.”

It had been hoped that players could be given a brief extension to July 13 to complete the tournament, but that will not be the case.
