By defeating Lebanon (1-2) in the qualifiers, Sudan secured its fifth appearance in the final phase of the Arab Cup.

Sudan’s first participation dates back to the 1998 edition. Despite a victory over Morocco (2-1), the Sudanese were knocked out in the group stage after a defeat to the United Arab Emirates (1-4).

Sudan also competed in the 2002 edition in Kuwait. Placed in Group A, they finished fourth with 4 points after a win against Morocco (1-0), a draw with Palestine (2-2), and two losses to Kuwait (0-1) and Jordan (1-2).

Ten years later, Sudan couldn’t improve on that, exiting again at the group stage despite finishing second in Group C. The Nile Crocodiles defeated Lebanon (0-2) and drew with Egypt (1-1) and Iraq (1-1).

The Sudanese were present four years ago in Qatar. Once again, they bowed out in the group stage after losing all three matches in Group D against Algeria (0-4), Egypt (0-5), and Lebanon (0-1).

Sudan now hopes to reach the knockout stage for the first time in its history as they prepare to take on Algeria, Iraq, and Bahrain in Group D.
