FIFA bans vuvuzelas at the 2026 World Cup

Fans will not be allowed to use vuvuzelas in 2026 World Cup stadiums, FIFA announced.

The ban will apply throughout the tournament, which runs from 11 June to 19 July. It follows restrictions on water bottles, which have been deemed potential projectiles.

The plastic horns were popularised at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Their monotone, droning sound, often likened to a swarm of bees, drew widespread criticism.

As a result, the governing body has opted to keep them out of venues in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
