City will be one of 32 teams vying for glory at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Pep Guardiola’s side head to the United States for three matches in the group stage in the hope of earning the right to progress to the knockout stages.
Initially, we’ll play Moroccan side Wydad AC, Abu Dhabi-based Al Ain and Italian giants Juventus.
Every single match at the tournament can be watched live for free with a DAZN account.
Learn more about the ground that will host our second match of the tournament against Al Ain - the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium was opened in August 2017 as a replacement for the Georgia Dome.
The stadium was built alongside the Georgia Dome, which was used for basketball and gymnastics in the 1996 Olympics.
The Dome was then demolished in November 2017 after the Mercedes-Benz had been built and officially opened.
75,000 people can fit into the stadium for American football, with slightly fewer able to watch football.
The record attendance is, in fact, 79,330 for a college football game on 31 December 2022 between Georgia and Ohio State.
The stadium's signature feature is its retractable roof, which features a "pinwheel" consisting of eight translucent, triangular panels.
When opened, the panels are designed to create the illusion of a bird's wings extended.
Meanwhile, the circular opening in the roof is inspired by the Roman Pantheon.
NFL team Atlanta Falcons were the primary tenants of the Georgia Dome but revealed plans to build this stunning arena back in 2010.
Formed in 1966, they are one of 12 franchises never to win the Super Bowl.
The Mercedes-Benz is actually their third home in 51 years of existence, following the Georgia Dome and the Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium.
The second chief tenant of the Mercedes-Benz is MLS franchise Atlanta United.
They were formed in 2014 and invited to join Major League Soccer when the Mercedes-Benz was opened in 2017, bringing top level football to the city for the first time.
The appetite was clearly there, with an average attendance of more than 50,000, as they won the MLS Cup in 2018 and US Open Cup in 2019.
In a neat tradition, a train horn blares out around the Mercedes-Benz Stadium before every Falcons game as a nod to Atlanta’s railroad history.
Originally named Marthasville and nicknamed Terminus, the city of Atlanta comes from the shortening of a railroad line that went through the heart of the city.
Four of the biggest games of college football every year are hosted at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Peach Bowl is one of the playoff matches every season – tending to be a quarter-final or semi-final each year.
The Celebration Bowl is contested between the champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Southwestern Athletic Conference;.
The SEC Championship Game has determined the Southeastern Conference's season champion since 1992.
The kick-off game is played on the opening weekend of the every NCAA Division I FBS season.
City have never played at the Mercedes-Benz, but many of our familiar rivals have.
Brighton, Brentford, Chelsea and Newcastle all featured in the 2023 Premier League Summer Series, while Bournemouth, West Ham, Manchester United and Everton will report there this summer after the FIFA Club World Cup concludes.
Last summer saw two matches in the Copa America held at the stadium, with Argentina beating Canada and Panama defeating the USA.
Our game with Al Ain is one of six matches in Atlanta this summer, with the likes of Chelsea and Inter Miami the previous star attractions.
There will then be two Round of 16 games and a quarter-final. However, City won’t return to the Mercedes-Benz no matter how far we progress.
Next summer sees the stadium take centre stage again, this time for the international World Cup. There will be four group matches, a Round of 32 game, Round of 16 tie and semi-final across June and July 2026.
America’s stadiums regularly host the biggest pop superstars of their time and the Mercedes-Benz is no different.
Beyonce has already performed there an incredible nine times across three tours, while Taylor Swift has done five shows.
The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran and Metallica are just some of the stadium’s other repeat visitors.
