More than a year after the Club World Cup final, over 50 European clubs that did not participate say they are still waiting for solidarity payments from the $250m fund FIFA promised for the new tournament.
The group has contacted the Association européenne des clubs (EFC) to voice concern over the missing money. The Times reports that FIFA is continuing discussions on how the funds will be allocated.
For smaller sides, the payments, billed as a reward linked to staging the revamped event, could be crucial to finances.
FIFA has not, so far, given the EFC an explanation for the delay, even though participating teams have already received their cheques.
Paris Saint-Germain are understood to have banked between €77m and €99m for their performances.
