According to Glorioso 1904, FIFA has extended Gianluca Prestianni’s six-match suspension to apply internationally, leaving the Benfica winger at risk of missing the start of the 2026 World Cup.
UEFA had already imposed a six-match ban on the Benfica shirt number 25, with three matches suspended for two years. One game was served in the second leg of the play-off, leaving two still to complete.
At the time, UEFA also asked FIFA to broaden the punishment globally so the Argentine could not play in European competition or official internationals.
With the wider scope now in place, Prestianni would miss Argentina’s first two games at the 2026 finals if Lionel Scaloni selects him.
If he is not called up for the tournament, which runs from 11 June to 19 July, the winger must serve the remaining two matches in next season’s international competitions.
