FIFA president champions a more peaceful world.
At the Global Citizen Awards hosted by the Atlantic Council in New York, FIFA president Gianni Infantino delivered a powerful message advocating for peace and an end to conflicts worldwide.
Speaking in front of several heads of state, including Emmanuel Macron and Javier Milei, Infantino emphasized football's unifying power and the responsibility of leaders to help build a more peaceful world:
I believe that people are fundamentally good. We must believe in ourselves. It pains me when I see children suffer, I cry when I see mothers weep, whether it's in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Libya, or elsewhere. There are conflicts in 80 countries. We all suffer when we see what's happening.
The FIFA president also underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation:
We need more meetings and discussions among people. How do we achieve peace? If I knew, I would have done it long ago. But we have to believe in it and work for it. Let's bring more people together around this goal.
Infantino wrapped up his speech by reminding everyone that football can serve as a bridge between peoples, and that everyone, in their own way, can help build a fairer, more united world.
