FIFA’s new loan rules are set to reshape Real Sociedad’s summer planning.

According to AS, clubs may loan only six players domestically and six internationally, and cannot loan three to the same club.

Four loanees have returned, Carlos Fernández, Jon Pacheco, Javi López and Mikel Goti. There are three first-team vacancies after Brais Méndez left for MLS and the club passed on options for Duje Caleta-Car and Wesley Gassova.

Pellegrino Matarazzo will use pre-season to assess López and Pacheco at Zubieta. Goti faces a similar audition after leaving in winter due to a lack of minutes.

Arsen Zakharyan could depart on loan, while Jon Karrikaburu may go on loan or be sold. Those moves would almost close the domestic loan list, Sanse aside. Krasnodar is one option for Zakharyan.

Carlos Fernández will be sold permanently, with one year left on his deal. The club are also weighing loans with options to buy, or sales with buy-back clauses.

The rule also affects the B team, back in Segunda División. Mikel Rodríguez or centre-back Luken Beitia could seek loans for minutes, though Beitia may stay, while Kenyan midfielder Ochieng looks set to remain with the first team.
