Racism once again took centre stage in La Liga as Barcelona star Alejandro Balde received racially intolerant comments from a certain group of opposition fans.
This happened during Barcelona’s most recent La Liga encounter against Getafe at Estadio Coliseum, where the Catalans were held to a 1-1 draw.
A group of Getafe fans made racially motivated chants to Balde, which was quickly reported by Barcelona staff.
Barcelona have shown their support to Balde, who has also received the support of his teammates and fans alike.
Now FIFA President Gianni Infantino has come out in support of the left-back, as he openly condemned the racially-motivated comments against the player.
“I am horrified by the racist insults directed at Alejandro Balde during the La Liga match against Getafe,” Infantino said in a press release (h/t MARCA).

“I condemn these acts that have no place in football and in society. Racism is a scourge that we must unite against to fight and defeat. No to racism, no to any form of discrimination,” the FIFA president added.
The comments against Balde are the latest of many racist abuses hurled towards black players in La Liga in the recent past.
The plight of Vinicius Junior has already been documented, but there have been several cases involving other players, that the authorities have not taken enough action.
The ball, therefore, is on the authorities as they look to find the perpetrators and take immediate action.
