FIFA has confirmed half-time will last 17 minutes for the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, ruling out a 30-minute interval. A large-scale show will take place without significantly altering the match.
Recent reports had suggested a Super Bowl-style break, which sparked debate over how a prolonged pause could affect rhythm, conditioning and concentration.
The interval extends only two minutes beyond the usual 15, giving time to stage the show while preserving tempo. Organisers have planned a rapid set-up and removal.
At the whistle, more than 300 crew will enter to install the main stage and technical equipment. Set-up and strike will be completed in about six minutes to protect the pitch before the restart.
The concert is expected to run for around 11 minutes, with an extensive package of lights, sound and visual effects. Artistic direction is by Chris Martin of Coldplay.
Shakira, Madonna, Justin Bieber and K-pop group BTS will headline. It will be the first World Cup final to feature a half-time show of this magnitude, with the aim of enhancing the occasion without detracting from the game.
