FIFA has suspended Nepal’s football federation after third party interference in its electoral process.

According to L'Équipe, the Bureau of the FIFA Council imposed the suspension, which removes all membership rights with immediate effect until further notice, and it must be confirmed by the Council at its next meeting. ANFA is barred from FIFA competitions and from attending the Congress.

The move comes amid a governance crisis. ANFA sought to bring forward its presidential election without the consent of the Conseil national des sports du Népal, CNS. The ANFA president pushed for a vote five months early, prompting protests within the federation.

The CNS then suspended ANFA for three months at national level early this year, before revoking that decision.

The CNS does not recognise the accelerated electoral process, and no presidential vote has taken place. Since 19 June, the four-year term of the incumbent president, Pankaj Bikram Nembang, has expired, leaving the domestic game in limbo.
