The Federation Internationale de Football Association FIFA has officially announced the creation of the FIFA Peace Award.

This award is new and will be presented annually and will make its debut during the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony on 5 December in Washington, D.C.

In official statement, FIFA said the award will recognize "exceptional actions in the service of peace" reflecting the organization’s belief that football can be force for unity amid global division.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino will personally hand over the inaugural trophy but declined to reveal the first recipient, telling reporters:

"You’ll know on 5 December. In world increasingly marked by division and unrest, it is essential to celebrate those who help bring people together in the spirit of peace"

The award will be given annually and according to FIFA, aims to represent the voice of football fans worldwide.

The announcement comes just month after the Nobel Committee passed over Donald Trump for the Peace Prize, despite campaigns supporting his nomination.

Infantino who has long maintained close personal relationship with the former US president, spoke warmly about him at the US Business Forum in Miami, held on the same day Trump addressed the event.

"I’m very lucky to have excellent relationship with President Trump. I consider him close friend. He has supported us greatly in the preparations for the World Cup and possesses incredible energy and courage in saying what he thinks" Infantino said.
