FIFA WWC PLAYER PROFILE: Cortnee Vine | OneFootball

Cortnee Vine is a 25-year-old winger who currently plays for A-League Women reigning champions Sydney FC where she was one of the sides outstanding players. Vine helped lead Sydney FC to their third consecutive premiership and their first championship since 2019, behind her seven goals and eight assists. She possesses electric pace, and is one of the best dribblers in the A-League Women’s competition.

Starting her career at the young age of 16 for Brisbane Roar, she bounced around multiple A-league Women’s clubs before finding a more permanent home at Sydney FC, under Ante Juric’s tutelage. Her stellar season saw her earn her first cap for the Matildas in the 2022 Asian Cup. She has since made 16 appearances for the Matildas and has tallied three goals so far.

Vine’s style of play is to abuse her pace and technical dribbling ability to beat her opposing full back and look to either get to the byline and cut back a pass for her striker, or to take on the opposing goalkeeper herself and look to bury her shots into the back of the net.

The 25-year-old’s style will come in handy for Tony Gustavsson’s Matildas squad as they often like to sit back and play on the counter attack where they often can beat their opponents for pace. Vine’s technical ability will also come in handy at the World Cup when they are able to play against weaker opposition, as they will hope to control the ball against these teams.

Despite only being fairly new to the Matilda’s squad Vine has quickly cemented herself as a regular starter on the wing for Gustavsson’s side having started seven of her last nine Matilda’s appearances.

Vine is one of only a few players in the Matilda’s squad who has spent the entirety of her career so far playing in the A-League Women’s Competition, however she is now out of contract with Sydney FC so a good World Cup performance from Vine could see her make her move overseas.
