Filipe Luís has sparked controversy after describing racism cases as isolated when asked about Vini Jr following Flamengo’s 1-0 defeat to Lanús in Argentina. According to Coluna Do Fla, the question came days after the forward was again subjected to racist abuse in Europe on Tuesday 17.
The Flamengo coach said he had always been well treated in Argentina, that he loves the country and that an isolated episode does not change his view of it.
He referred to frequent racism cases as isolated acts. The comments have drawn global reaction since the incident in Lisbon, Portugal.
In Lisbon, Vini Jr scored the goal that secured Real Madrid’s win over Benfica four minutes into the second half. He celebrated by dancing, which prompted protests from home players and a confrontation on the pitch.
Prestianni, among those confronting him, called the former Flamengo forward ‘macaco’. The referee activated the anti-racism protocol and halted the match.
On Thursday 19, Real Madrid issued a note, sending evidence of the incident to UEFA and thanking people for their support of Vini Jr.
