With less than two years in the job, Filipe Luís is on the verge of matching Carlinhos as Flamengo’s most decorated coach if the team win the Recopa Sudamericana. On the eve of the first leg at Lanús, he played down the milestone.
“It does not change anything, matching Carlinhos at Flamengo. I am the same, whether as a player or a coach, I always want to win the next match. That has been my routine, doing the best possible to win,” he told ESPN.
Filipe Luís has five trophies as head coach, the Copa do Brasil 2024, Supercopa do Brasil 2025, Carioca 2025, Brasileiro 2025 and Libertadores 2025. Carlinhos leads with six titles, while Jorge Jesus and Flávio Costa each have five.
Carlinhos, known as Violino, had seven spells in charge and won six trophies with Flamengo, also managing Guarani and Remo.
Flamengo visit Lanús at the Estadio Néstor Díaz Pérez on Thursday 19 February, with kick-off at 21:30 Brasília time. The match will be broadcast on ESPN and Disney+.
