Flamengo lost 2-1 to Fluminense at the Maracanã in the Campeonato Carioca on Sunday. Head coach Filipe Luís said the low shot tally owed much to the opponents.

According to Coluna Do Fla, he argued Fluminense neutralised Flamengo’s attack, which kept attempts to a minimum.

The previous match, against Vasco, was the first outing for the main side. Flamengo dominated for 90 minutes, registering 32 shots to Vasco’s two.

Against Fluminense the numbers dipped sharply. Flamengo managed eight efforts, while the rivals produced 10 in a more balanced contest.

It was Flamengo’s fewest attempts since the Copa Libertadores meeting with Racing, when they played with a man fewer and recorded six shots.
