Flamengo have stepped up first-team training under Filipe Luís as the club considers when the senior side will make its season bow.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the squad worked at Ninho do Urubu from 9:30, Brasília time, on Friday 16. Thursday’s session was moved because of intense heat in Rio de Janeiro. Training reverted to the original programme.

Flamengo’s under-20s opened the Carioca with a 2-1 defeat to Bangu on Wednesday 14. The team are back in action on Saturday 17 against Volta Redonda at 21:30, Brasília time, in round two.

The senior group reported back on Monday 12 and remain in pre-season at the training ground.

Internally, the club are assessing the best moment for the first-team debut. Current planning points to a mixed side of under-20s and first-team reserves facing Vasco on 21 in the Carioca. Discussions include a Fla-Flu return on 25 January, or waiting until the Brasileiro opener on 28 January against São Paulo.
