Filipe Luís reaches 100 matches as Flamengo head coach on Thursday, seeking to steady his most turbulent spell against Lanús in the Recopa Sudamericana at the Maracanã, kick-off 21:30 Brasília time.

According to Globo.com, he is the first this century to hit 100 in a single spell, the ninth overall. Only Vanderlei Luxemburgo has gone beyond, with 143 across separate stints. He is 13th overall, chasing Sebastião Lazaroni on 103.

This 2026 season has brought unwanted firsts, the first back-to-back defeats as coach and a four-match winless run. With pressure building, he is trying to ride out the instability.

He took 514 days to reach the mark, a span of 73 weeks that included five trophies and shifts in style and leadership. He will mark two years since debuting as under-17 coach in March.

He says he feels privileged, accepts sporting criticism as part of the job and is not afraid. He trusts the work, loves the club and the pressure, and wants performances to return so the connection with fans comes back.

Shaped by lessons from Jorge Jesus, Diego Simeone and others, he built a team around firm principles. Under him Flamengo have won almost everything contested, short of the Club World Cup and the Intercontinental.

The training-ground mood has cooled, with some players feeling dialogue has dipped and uneasy about certain decisions. After a drawn-out renewal, coach and club seek to reconnect. It could be a first step.
