Filipe Luís is under pressure at Flamengo after a run of poor results and questions over his handling of the squad, with the mood souring after defeat to Lanús in the Recopa Sul-Americana.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the club would prioritise Leonardo Jardim as head coach if they decide to dismiss Filipe.

Since December, Filipe’s relationship with president Bap has been only professional, after dissatisfaction with his stance during last year’s contract talks. Director José Boto is the key intermediary, while some players have raised complaints about the coach.

Flamengo sounded out Jardim amid the wrangle over Filipe’s extension, and he was open to talks, but the club renewed the former left-back and halted discussions. The Portuguese managed Cruzeiro in 2025 and is well regarded by the board.

Filipe signed a two-year deal running to the end of 2027. Any dismissal would require Flamengo to pay a release clause, and he is now on a millionaire salary.

Before that, the under-20s struggled in the Campeonato Carioca, prompting an early recall of first-team players. The seniors then underperformed too, losing the Supercopa Rei and coming close to elimination in the state competition.
