Flamengo made home advantage count, beating Madureira 3-0 in the first leg of the Carioca semi-final on Sunday 22.
According to Coluna Do Fla, head coach Filipe Luís admitted the recent defensive sequence had bothered him, saying he hates conceding and repeatedly asks his forwards to help close spaces.
With the first team in 2026, Flamengo had conceded in eight of nine games before facing Madureira, the sole clean sheet coming in the 1-0 win over Vasco in the professionals’ debut. Sunday’s result ended an eight-match run of conceding.
They return on Thursday 26 to face Lanús in the Recopa Sudamericana second leg at the Maracanã. The match for the continental title kicks off at 21:30 Brasília time.
Filipe Luís added that he focuses on how chances are created rather than the number conceded, insisting details must be corrected and the team needs to evolve. He highlighted too many passes breaking through the middle, which Madureira managed to find, and said he always selects those he believes give the best chance of winning.
