Ansu Fati is all set to leave FC Barcelona in the coming days, with the loan deal to AS Monaco now in its final stages.

The 22-year-old forward, who had fallen out of favour under Hansi Flick this season, has agreed to join the Ligue 1 outfit, snubbing interest from Chelsea in the process.

One final step remains

Now, according to SPORT, one key detail still needs to be resolved before the transfer becomes official.

Both Barcelona and Monaco have reached an agreement on the terms of the loan, including the wage distribution and an option to buy for around €20 million.

But discussions are ongoing regarding a buy-back clause that Barça wishes to include for Ansu. So far, no agreement has been reached on that specific point.

Barcelona initially prioritised a permanent transfer, but have accepted the loan arrangement with an option to buy as a viable solution. However, the club is insisting on a buy-back clause in case Ansu rediscovers his best form.

Monaco were initially resistant to this condition, but signs now suggest both sides are moving towards an agreement, even if the buy-back price ends up being high.

All parties eager to wrap up agreement quickly

Monaco became Fati’s preferred destination after discussions with his agent, Jorge Mendes, who travelled to Barcelona to help finalise the move.

The young forward accepted that he was not part of the club’s future plans and evaluated several options. Ultimately, he gave the green light to Monaco and went on holiday while the two clubs worked out the details.

It is also important that Ansu establishes residency in Monaco in June to take advantage of the country’s favourable tax conditions – a factor that benefits both the player and Barça financially.

From Barça’s perspective, Fati’s departure is essential to ease the wage bill. The academy graduate has a high salary and a contract until 2027, so his exit will free up significant room in the budget.

This financial space could be used to strengthen the squad, especially if Barça maintains their 1:1 salary-to-revenue ratio, which currently appears likely.
