The second leg of the Women’s Champions League semi-final took place today, with Bayern having the chance to qualify for the final against FC Barcelona after a 1-1 draw in the first leg
The opponents were Olympique Lyon, who secured their place in the final on Saturday, thanks in part to Jule Brand, who scored a goal. Bayern had already shown in the first leg that they could hurt Barcelona, but the Spaniards were the favourites beforehand
The Barca women’s dominance in the domestic league is impressive and they should now take that into the top flight
Bayern president Herbert Hainer had flown to Barcelona to support the team, but head coach José Barcala’s team found out right from the start that it was going to be a very tough game. Salma Paraluello gave the Blaugrana the lead in the 13th minute, but Bayern quickly hit back, with Linda Dallmann equalising just four minutes after going behind. The dream of the final was still alive at this point

However, Barca’s technical advantages became apparent and as the game wore on, the small errors in Bayern’s play gave the hosts a greater advantage. Alexia Putellas eventually scored to give them the lead again, which also meant the score was 2-1 at the break
Ewa Pajor (54), who had already scored in the first leg, increased the lead to 3:1, Putellas (58) to 4:1. That was more or less the preliminary decision, even if Bayern showed morale. Pernille Harder scored to make it 4:2 and at this point there were still a good 20 minutes to go. A follow-up goal was pulled back, otherwise it could have been exciting again in the final phase, but in the end the defeat was quite acceptable because Barcelona were simply the better team.
