Opposing manager - Andoni Iraola

Since arriving in the Premier League in 2023, Basque-born Iraola has captured the imagination of many with his high octane, energetic style of football.

He took Bournemouth to their record finish of sixth last season before making the move to Liverpool this summer.

It’s a major step for the 44-year-old, who had only been in charge of AEK Larnaca, Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano before joining Bournemouth.

A right-back as a player, he featured most for Athletic Club - making 510 appearances there between 2003 and 2015 before a brief stint with New York City to end his career.

He’s one of the wave of Basque managers currently in the English top-flight, with Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery and Xabi Alonso also hailing from the region.

Previous meeting

City hammered Liverpool 4-0 in our last meeting, when the sides played an FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium in April.

Erling Haaland scored a brilliant hat-trick and Antoine Semenyo rounded it off as we sealed yet another trip to Wembley.

We won all three meetings with Liverpool last term, winning 3-0 in the league meeting at the Etihad before a dramatic late, late turnaround at Anfield in February.

Last time out

This match will be the first back after an extensive international break, with City running out 5-3 winners over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium in a wildly entertaining game just before the players joined their national sides.

Liverpool won 1-0 at Bournemouth in their last game before the international window, taking them to seven games unbeaten across all competitions at the start of the new season.
