Authorities in Seville have set out the consequences for disorder around the Copa del Rey final, after last year's unrest brought heavy fines and court action.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, 77 sanctioning proceedings were opened, with penalties from €150 to €80,000, and 21 cases now before criminal courts.

Last year the mood deteriorated into clashes, with street drinking, flares and vandalism recorded, and arrests made. Barcelona groups gathered in Plaza Nueva and San Francisco, Real Madrid groups around the Alameda de Hércules and Calle Feria.

In 2024 there were also disturbances in the Alameda hours before the final between Athletic Bilbao and RCD Mallorca at around 15:00 on 7 April. Flares and terrace furniture were hurled close to the National Police station.

With those precedents, an operation is planned for this Saturday across fan zones and other hotspots, with particular focus on the Alameda. The deployment is described as proportionate and includes specific attention for local residents.

In total, the National Police will deploy 1,617 officers, joined by 679 from the Guardia Civil. The city will assign 230 Local Police to traffic control, tackle street trading and oversee areas such as Plaza Nueva and San Francisco.

The priority is for the plan to work so supporters can enjoy the match in safety. Those intent on disorder can be identified after weeks of monitoring, with corrective and coercive measures applied if required.
