Atlético are set to visit San Mamés with the transfer window closed and only Alexander Sorloth unavailable. According to as.com, Diego Simeone has fresh options in attack.
Jonathan David has completed three sessions since a last-minute move from Juventus and is in line for the squad. Julián, his summer saga over, is also expected to travel to Bilbao this afternoon.
With Giménez having left for Deportivo at the death, Simeone regains Le Normand after a one-game ban served in Sevilla. The Sánchez Pizjuán display was convincing and the coach is poised to keep the side that dominated the first half, likely again without a penalty-box number nine.
Training focused on finishing to sharpen accuracy in Bilbao. Baena has started the campaign with three goals and one assist in three matches.
The XI is set to feature Oblak in goal and a defence including three of the last World Cup’s champions, Llorente, Pubill and Grimaldo, plus Hancko as left-sided centre-back. Hjulmand and Barrios anchor midfield, with the fluid movement of Giuliano, Lookman, Kang-in Lee and Baena ahead.
If the strikerless approach stalls, David and Julián Alvarez could get their chance. Koke, Carrasco and Cuti Romero, who is yet to debut, are also in the frame.
Simeone has depth to tweak in midfield and attack, with further options such as Mendoza, Vargas and Arnau. The away run continues, after Sevilla and Bilbao they will visit Liverpool and San Sebastián.
