Fiorentina confirm that Riccardo Sottil has undergone surgery after fracturing his clavicle during the Conference League semi-final.
The winger had opened the scoring against Club Brugge last night in what would go on to be a 3-2 victory, but was not able to finish the match.
He fell awkwardly after being fouled and landed on his chest and shoulder.
Tests immediately showed that this was a serious problem with multiple fractures.
Fiorentina released a statement this evening confirming that Sottil has gone under the knife to reduce the multiple fracture of the left clavicle with osteosynthesis.
This means that screws were introduced to stabilise the fracture and help the bone heal in the right position.
Although it is not mentioned in the statement, Sky Sport Italia suggest this type of injury will require at least a couple of months out, so the season is already over for Sottil.
The second leg of the Conference League semi-final is next Wednesday.
